On Sunday 27 September 2026 the Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission organised the Gortin Skills Jam Event at Gortin Glen Forest Park in County Tyrone. This was the first time this event has been run. It was aimed at youth in the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 age categories and included coaching on the newly built skills area in the forest. We had 37 riders in attendance. They were split into three groups by skill set and spent time using the grass area, lower skills area ‘blue loop’ and the longer ‘red loop’. The focus was on cornering, carrying speed, body position, jump techniques etc.
At lunchtime the riders enjoyed a burger from the onsite café. Once refuelled the riders then had some timed runs on both the blue and red loop. The final event was a long jump challenge on the grass area. Weather wise, we had a wet morning but after lunch it dried up for a pleasant afternoon. We only had one serious injury, a broken arm, and we wish Adam McAlinden a speedy recovery. Thanks to Charlie (paramedic) for looking after him.
